News from the fairways and greens - November 2015

01 November - 30 November 2015

During the last month we have completed various small projects including:

- The resurfacing of the ladies tees on holes 7 & 17, we have also taken this opportunity to create new tees, this will allow us to alternate between the tees giving them time to recover

Creation of new tees

- Rebuild of the club tee on hole 6

- Planting of some pennisetum grass on hole 5, right of green, this will make the longer hitters think twice before deciding to drive the green or not

- Improvement to drainage on hole 14 to help reduce accumulation of water in the right hand rough following heavy rains

Biological maintenance approach on the par 3 course

Another project I would like to share with you is our biological maintenance approach on the Par 3 course which we officially started in June this year. We have to date been concentrating on soil amendment, addressing the major soil deficiencies and imbalances to help increase the soil fertility.

This month we started our “Biological Ground Spray Program”which has been included to provide and stimulate beneficial soil biology. A general “Foliar Spray Program”has been our main source of nutrient for the turfgrass to date. The main aim of this project is to reduce the need for N-P-K inputs and hopefully eliminate the need for pesticide use entirely one day. These changes will obviously not happen overnight but the key to achieving these goals is to make sure that the soil is well balanced; “lack or excess of any element has a direct impact on the soil and all that live from it, balance is everything”.

That’s it for this month and happy golfing.
